Monitoring Arctic Environmental Changes Through the Application of the Next Generation Coupled Regional Climate Model (MAOPS)- Lupine Publishers



Global warming is associated with significant polar amplification feedbacks. But how strong is the amplification? Will it be a slow increase or will it accelerate in the coming 20-100 years? This is currently unknown, despite 20 years of research. One of the problems is that most Arctic processes feedbacks reside in the eddy resolving detail because of the high latitude nature of the problem with a small Rossby Radious of deformation. As a result, a high-resolution model is needed to capture eddy-resolution at high latitude zones. The Arctic cloud-radiation feedback when coupled with the ice-albedo feedback is not adequately captured in the current coupled climate models, partly due to the coarse resolutions of both the atmosphere and ocean models that will fundamentally affect quantification of polar amplification. The proposed model framework will permit a new transformative way of thinking about the climate feedbacks (ocean-atmosphere exchange) in the Arctic both positive and negative. Changes to the marine biota are known to involve oceanic oxygen and carbonate chemistry.

Natural Gas Pipelines Leakage, Toxicity and its Safety Measures (MAOPS)- Lupine Publishers



A fugitive emission of natural gas during the extraction of oil and gas and its transportation through the pipeline has potential threat to the environment. Natural gas (NG) is the mixture of hydrocarbon gases consisting primarily of methane and other varying hydrocarbons, a small fraction of carbon dioxide, hydrogen, nitrogen, hydrogen sulphide and rare trace gases like helium, neon, xenon etc. The colorless and odorless NG has a wide range of applications as a cleaner fuel. The rapid urbanization, industrialization and economic growth all over the world demand the increasing transportation capacity of NG. Though the transportation pipeline are laid with well-equipped sophisticated technology and leak detection sensors, however still there are risk factor associated for leakage of the gases and explosion. The impacts of man-made disaster are in terms of deaths, injury, losses in economics, property and also having the adverse effect on ecology. The integrity of the NG pipeline system can be achieved by adopting continuous sophisticated up gradation technology. It also requires operation and maintenance of the pipeline at regular interval.

Long Term Winter Season 2017/2018 Northern Hemisophere and Their Impact over Indonesia Maritime Continent Area (MAOPS)-Lupine Publishers




The winter season 2017/2018 could be one of the unusual condition with increasing the winter storm activities over Northern Hemisphere to affect aerodrome closed for certain airports in big city of the United States of America and Canada in Northern America Continent, it could be over European Countries and North Asian Continent. The freezing water Niagara for the first time during last 50 years could be additional condition from coolest than normal and it might longer than usual based upon public information and collecting the global climatic chart from National Climate Centers under coordination from the World Meteorological Organization. If the condition winter season 2017/2018 compared with previous condition especially in the 17 years or it could be more than that period, the winter season 2017/2018 could be worst condition and situation especially with winter storm occurrences over most northern hemisphere. Reversal condition over southern hemisphere with summer season with few day occurrences of the heat wave over Australia continent last January 2018.

The Effect of Soil Moisture Level on Growing of Two Common Bean (Phaseolus Vulgaris L) Cultivars (MAOPS)- Lupine Publishers



The amounts of water use efficiency vary with climatic, soils and crop ability to extract water in the soil. It has been frequently reported, lack of water availability reduce the amount and yield of common bean. The aim of study was to determine the effect of soil moisture level on growth of two common bean cultivars. The study was conducted in greenhouse. The design was factorial arrangement in randomized complete block design. Forty eight treatment pots were used for two common bean cultivars. Four seeds were sown in 48 pots filled with 5cm soil depth and irrigated until water dripping through perforated base. From total pots, 24 pots selected randomly and labeled as BULGA-70 cultivar and the rest as CS-20-DK cultivar. After germination, only one uniform plant was kept and five water treatments levels, 100 % (Control), 75%, 50% and 25% were applied by field capacity. Plant height, leaf area and dry matters were measured. As results, plant height, leaf area and dry weight in both cultivars were significant to soil moisture condition. However, no significant difference was observed 100% and 75% water levels in both cultivars. Therefore, 75% water treatment level is advisable for farmers to minimize water wastage.

Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon Degradation and BTEX Leaching in Soils after Application of Oil-Base Drilling Mud: Impact of Application Rate, Rainfall Regime, and Time (MAOPS)- Lupine Publishers



Increases in oil and gas drilling have resulted in large quantities of oil base “mud” (OBM) to be disposed of. Land application of OBM to agricultural land is a common disposal technique that presents agronomic and environmental challenges since the material is rich in total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH). Leaching of lower molecular weight hydrocarbons, mainly benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene (BTEX), is a concern due to their relatively low octanol: water partition coefficients. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of rainfall regime and TPH loading rate on TPH degradation and BTEX leaching after OBM application. An OBM was characterized for TPH, BTEX, and trace metals. A soil column study was conducted where OBM was applied at five loading rates (0, 22,000, 45,000, 67,000, and 90,000 kg TPH ha-1) and was subjected to four moisture regimes. OBM samples were taken at day 0, 7, 30, 60, and 91 to monitor TPH degradation. Leachate samples were taken at day 0, 14, 28, 35, 49, 56, 63, 77, and 84 to monitor electrical conductivity (EC), pH, metal concentrations, and BTEX concentrations. After 60 days, a maximum TPH degradation of 35% was measured. Leachate BTEX concentrations increased as TPH application rate increased and was mostly undetectable by day 28. Leachate EC increased over time and with increasing TPH rates. TPH rate had no effect on leachate pH. OBM loading rates had the greatest effect on TPH degradation and BTEX leaching. Under our experimental conditions, little risk of BTEX leaching from land applied OBM was observed.

The Adsorption of Organic Pollutants by Gemini Surfactant-Modified Montmorillonite from Water (MAOPS)- Lupine Publishers



Water is a very important resource to human life and the development of society. But large amounts of natural and anthropogenic organic substances are constantly discharged to water bodies. The serious problem of water pollution has been raising a global concern. These typical organic contaminants in water environment include but not limited to dyes, pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs), phenols and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Most of those compounds are toxic to aquatic biota and human beings. Therefore, removal of this organic matter from water is a great subject of research nowadays. Off all the removal methods, adsorption is an effective technique which is widely used. Various adsorbents have been studied that include materials based on carbon, clay minerals, polymers, silica, and so on . Clay minerals are considered as low cost and easily available adsorbents. Montmorillonite, a 2:1 layered dioctahedral aluminosilicate of smectite group clay, is one of the most investigated clay minerals for removing organic pollutants because of its versatility and facile modification of its porosity, acidity, hydrophilicity, and so on.

Untold story of Deccan Traps: Role of silicate Liquid Immiscibility (MAOPS)- Lupine Publishers



Role of liquid immiscibility has immense importance in petro genesis of basaltic magmas. Roedder, Weiblen postulated that high silica and high iron glasses of the lunar basaltic rocks have widespread petro genetic significance. In lunar basalts, generally, the globules of dark brown glass appear to have composition equivalent to Pyroxene + Iron ore. On the contrary, it is significant that Washington initially recognized that the residual glass in the Deccan Trap basalts should be composition corresponding to a mixture of augite and magnetite. The role of liquid immiscibility in basaltic magmas had been graphically depicted by Roedder  in terms of SiO2-(FeO+MgO+CaO)-(K2O+Na2O+Al2O3) diagram; characteristically the liquid immiscibility field in Roedder’s ternary plot assumes an elongated elliptical geometry relatively away from SiO2-rich corner. The compositions of terrestrial basalts like Deccan Trap  Palisade diabase sill etc. fall close to the demarcated liquid immiscibility field of Roedder . The samples of lunar basalt obtained from Apollo 11 and 12 expeditions were also plotted in the ternary plot proposed by Roedder .

Globalization has also contributed more in environmental degradation as well. It has led to increase in the consumption of products, affected the ecological cycle, increased consumption leads to an increase in the production of goods, which also creates or puts more stress on the environment. Isotopic Bioinorganic Chemistry of Chemoautotrophs as a Predictor-Regulator for Formation of Metal Deposits and Factor of Weathering (MAOPS)- Lupine Publishers



The role of chemoautotrophs / lithotrophs in the formation of deposits and weathering is almost universally known, however, the results of this biogeochemical activity and mass transfer mediated by chemoautotrophs are radically different depending on the ionic composition of the medium, the salt conductivity effects and the Purbe diagram of the corresponding conditions of this activity, as well as a number of other physico-chemical Characteristics often not considered as impact factors (for simplifying models). Biogeochemical representations of the early period on which models and kinetic approaches to the analysis of similar processes were based are, by most criteria, phenomenological and "empirical", but do not reveal the essence of the processes occurring on the border of the medium processed by microorganisms and the surface of chemoautotrophs as active agents, that process this medium. Meanwhile, from the point of view of biochemical physics (and, in particular, biological kinetics), the mechanisms realized at the interface or in its diffusion neighborhood are decisive in such cases, since the entry of matter into "microreactor" compartments of biological origin and aggregation with biomineralization, as a rule, occur mediated by the surface of the biomembrane.

Chemoautotrophic and lithotrophic microorganisms are known to participate in the deposit formation and the rock weathering, but the results of such chemoautotroph-mediated biogeochemical activity and mass transfer strongly differ depending on the ionic composition of the medium, the salt conductivity effects and the Pourbaix diagrams of their medium, as well as on some other physico-chemical parameters which are often not considered as the active external factors for the sake of simplicity. The early biogeochemical considerations underlying the models and kinetic approaches to the analysis of such processes are mostly phenomenological and empirical and do not disclose the essence of the processes occurring at the boundary between the medium processed by the microorganisms and their active surface.

The output of an image processor might be another image or a set of special signals and sometimes some variables related to that image. Most of image processing techniques consider an image as a 2-D signal and then do a suitable signal processing on it. Nowadays, image processing is one of the best tools for feature extraction in natural studies like environmental interactions and behavior analysis. In human visual system, a similar process is done by our brain which finally helps.com to better decision making, however, the main aim of image processing is not implementation of intellectual functions of human in terms of received data from our eye (as an optical bio-sensor) related to various observations, because these functional activities are so complex.
